By now, you’ve seen the news that IBM and HCL announced a definitive agreement, through which HCL will acquire IBM’s AppScan, BigFix, Marketing Software (Unica), Commerce, Portal and Web Content Manager, Notes/Domino/Sametime, and Connections. The transaction is expected to close in mid-2019, subject to completion of applicable regulatory reviews. See this press release for more details.
Since July of this year, through an IP Partnership with IBM, HCL has been providing development and support for WebSphere Portal and Web Content Manager, and this agreement builds on that. In the short time since that agreement was signed, we have been ramping up the organization and listening to customers and partners, to understand what you need from these products in the future.
Customer, partner, and employee reactions to the announcement have been very positive. We view this as a natural extension of our ongoing commitment to provide the Digital Experience products and community with first class innovation and technical support. With IBM, we ran two successful “mini-conferences”, in North America and in Europe, attended by over 150 customers and partner attendees. These helped us establish three key themes for the future of the Digital Experience products:
• Refresh the platform, focusing on reducing TCO and operational overheads
• Improve the user experience, by simplifying and streamlining key user journeys
• Enhance the products’ programmability, by creating modern APIs
We are planning further events to continue this process, and will welcome your participation to further develop our plans for delivery.
This Digital Experience mission is as relevant today as it has always been – it’s still critical for our customers to engage their clients, partners and employees with relevant content and rich applications. This acquisition will strengthen our focus on this family of products as a state-of-the-art, modern platform for delivering this mission. At the same time, it will enable us to integrate with other products in our portfolio to create powerful, delightful solutions.
Until the transaction closes, please consider everything business as usual, with IBM, HCL and partners providing our respective solutions. Please continue using current support channels. If you’re expanding your implementation or renewing new licenses, please stay the course.
Feel free to reach to us personally with questions and stay tuned for information about our upcoming event in Europe at the end of February and our presence at Think 2019. We continue to support our customers and our business with the same passion and innovation that has been a constant for us since the first IP partnership.
